READING A VARIETIES OF TEXTS (INTENSIVE READING)
Read by definition is the process of look at and understand the meaning of written or printed words or symbols, it may be silent or aloud to others.
People can read information from newspapers, magazines, internet, story and school books and other public information
Through this topic, a reader will be able to get skills and discipline of reading variety of texts and then understand them. For measurement of student’s understanding of the texts, a student is required to answer the questions provided from reading the texts.
This type of reading for answering questions after text needs much attention and a lot of discipline. After reading a text a reader must be able to yield some important information.
Most of the texts are followed with questions to be answered by the reader. There are some important things to consider before one attempts to answer the questions after text;
 
Things to consider when reading a text
  • Texts are designed to test how well one understands what he/she reads.
  • Do not use knowledge from outside to answer questions from the texts.
  • Concentrate to the passage to come out with all answers.
  • You should read the text more than one I order to understand well the text.
  • You should take note for important or difficult terminologies for finding its meaning.
PRACTICE
Read the following Simple Text and then answer the questions followed;
                                          A CUSTOMER
                   One day Mr. Juha seat in the hotel drinking some coffee, a boy came to him, he was selling newspapers. “Which newspaper do you have? Juha asked. “I have Daily News and The Guardian” the boy replied, well give me both, how much it cost? Mr Juha asked, “One thousand two hundred for both, The Guardian sold at seven hundred”, the boy said, “Oh that is very expensive, just give me Daily News”, Mr. Juha said. He gave the boy ten thousand shilling note then the boy said he had no change, “let me go looking for change Sir” The boy said. “No no no you will run away with my money just leave your newspapers here with me” Mr. Juha said. The boy left happily leaving Juha with the newspapers. There were only three newspapers that the boy left so the boy never comes back.
 
Try to answer the following questions related to the text

Generally, when reading any text or comprehension it is very important to recognize logical and grammatical relationships among parts of the concepts. Reading different texts will enable a student to get new terminologies and it may improve reading skills among the student hence enable them to perform better in their exams.
