OUR NATION
A nation refers to a group of people who have the same government, culture, economy, and history. These people live in a particular area which has specific and recognized boundaries. Examples of nations are Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and so many. African continent include 54 countries which can also be referred to as Nations.

Meaning of National symbols
A symbol is a sign that represents something, National symbols, these are signs which represent a nation. These symbols are very important as they are a reminder of our nationhood to us and to the rest of the world.

[*]Two human figures, the man, and woman represent the people of Tanzania. The two figures also symbolize the need for co-operation between men and women in order to bring about development.
[*]Two elephant tusks, these represent our national heritage in terms of wildlife. Tanzania has beautiful national parks and game reserves in which different animals and plants are found in their natural habitats.
[*]Shield and spear, the shield and spear represent the weapons that were used by Tanzanians to resist colonialism. These weapons represent the readiness of the people to defend their independence, also represent the national defense.
[*]Golden band on the upper part of the shield, this represents the mineral wealth of the country. Tanzania has many different minerals, including diamonds, gold, and tanzanite.
[*]Flame of the burning Uhuru torch, this is a symbol of freedom and enlightenment.
[*]National flag, this represents Tanzania as an independent state
[*]Red band on the shield, this represents the fertile red soil found in our country
[*]Crossed ax and hoe, these represent the tools which Tanzanians use to develop their country
[*]Sea waves, these represent water bodies found in Tanzania
[*]The peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, this is the highest mountain in Tanzania and in Africa. This mountain is a source of pride for Tanzanians
[*]Crops (cotton and clove), at the feet of the man, there is a branch of the clove tree. At the feet of the woman, there is a branch of the cotton plant, these represent our cash crops.
[*]The inscription UHURU NA UMOJA, this means freedom and unity, it is the national motto of the United Republic of Tanzania.

National festivals are days when we celebrate important national events. Such days are usually public holidays, most offices and businesses are normally closed on such days.
There are two categories of national festivals,
